JUNE 8: AMARILLO TX to ALBUQUERQUE NM

Miles: 411

Today we travelled from Shamrock, TX to Albuquerque, NM.  To our disappointment, we could not paint a car at the Cadillac Ranch.  The wind was insane and recent bad weather left most of them in standing water and ankle deep mud.  We tried but it was a bust.  Amarillo was... well, a dump.  I imagine it looks best at night during a blackout.  We still managed to have a lot of fun today.  It was mostly dedicated to old Route 66 roadside attractions and getting to New Mexico where we will have a first multi-night stay.

Route 66 Roadside Attractions:
U-Drop Inn, the inspiration for Ramone’s Paint Shop in the “Cars” movie, in Shamrock, TX
The Leaning Tower of Water in Britten, TX
The Cross (190 ft tall) in Groom, TX
Peace Sign east of Amarillo, TX
Cadillac Ranch west of Amarillo, TX
Route 66 Monument in Tucumcari, NM

Amarillo, TX: Lunch at the famous Big Texan Steak Ranch

Tucumcari, NM: Wheels on 66 carnival and car show

Albuquerque, NM: Dinner at the Elephant Bar in Uptown ABQ
