JUNE 5: HOME to NASHVILLE TN

Miles: 598

Itinerary: Today's goal was to knock out some mileage. North Carolina was easy sailing but Tennessee did not treat us well with bad weather, road construction and accidents. Tomorrow off to Memphis and Little Rock.

We have asked the kids to write a journal entry each day. They agreed as long as I typed it without edits.

Elle’s Memory:
Today's our first day on our across country road trip. We drove through North Carolina and saw some pretty mountains. We pulled over to the side of the road and took our picture in front of the Welcome to Tennessee sign. Tennessee is the Volunteer State. We drove a little more and stopped at a gas station. When we got off the exit it was raining even more than when we were at the gas station! You could barely see! We turned on the news and there was an accident the way we were headed. We missed the exit and the traffic was really backed up. We went in the other lane that had like no people in it and took a detour. We kind of got lost but finally we made it to Cracker Barrel and had dinner there. After that it was pretty good. We got stuck a little when they were fixing the right lane. We finally got to see the city (Nashville) when we drove around it. And we saw a truck carrying three trucks!

Cole’s Memory:
It was the day of the big trip! We rented a Tahoe. We drove to Tennessee. We took a picture in front of the sign. Then I saw lightning. I heard thunder. It was raining. Traffic was bad. We finally had dinner at Cracker Barrel. We saw Nashville! We got to the hotel . We unpacked. We brushed our teeth and got in our PJ's. Then we went to bed.
