JUNE 11: DURANGO CO

Miles: 0 by car / 100 by train

We rode the Durango-Silverton Railroad today from Durango to Silverton and back. If you are a train person, this is one of the great American rail lines. It is 3 ½ hours each direction so it was the entire day's event. Our pictures do not adequately capture what we saw. The ride is special, not only because of the train, but because it provides the only access to many of these views. In Silverton, we ate lunch at the Pickle Barrel and toured the town. The town is quite picturesque with a single paved road and surrounded by mountains. When we returned to Durango, we ate dinner on the patio of The Palace and did some more shopping. We ended the day with a movie back at the hotel; "Cars" of course.
