JUNE 16: BLYTHE to ANAHEIM CA

Miles: 242

We took it easy on Father's Day. We drove from Blythe to Anaheim with a few stops in Palm Springs and San Bernardino. Palm Springs was nice enough but not our speed. San Bernardino is where McDonald's and Taco Bell started. We visited the site of the first McDonald's restaurant which is now an unofficial museum run by local historians and enthusiasts. San Bernardino is also on Route 66 and the site of one of three Wigwam style motels still in operation. We enjoyed it because it was the inspiration for Sally's Cozy Cone Motel in the “Cars” movie, Elle's and Cole's favorite. The owner was very friendly and, even though we did not have a reservation, he gave us a tour and let us go in one of the rooms. We arrived in Anaheim, picked up some supplies at Target, checked in to our hotel and had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Our hotel is within easy walking distance of Disneyland and many restaurants. In fact, we are watching the nightly fireworks from our hotel room as I type this. We bought our tickets earlier this evening and are ready for two days at Disneyland!
