Today
we drove from Las Vegas to Springdale, UT, just outside Zion National
Park. On the way out of town, we took pictures at the 'Welcome to
Las Vegas' sign, cruised the Strip, drove past Las Vegas Speedway and
stocked up at Walmart. We visited the Valley of Fire State Park.
The park was more impressive than we expected and nicer than the
pictures really capture. We drove by Lake Mead, got lunch on the
road in Overton and drove up I15 through the Northwest corner of
Arizona. The drive through Arizona was an unexpected treat. The
highway cuts through the Arizona mountains along the Virgin River Bed
(no water). It reminded us a little bit of the I70 drive through
Central Colorado ski resort country. We took a scenic drive through
the Utah towns of Hurricane and La Verkin on our way to Springdale,
which is the location of our hotel and at the southern entrance to
Zion National Park. Springdale is a fantastic little town that has a
beautiful backdrop everywhere you look. We checked-in, walked to
Wildcat Willies Ranch Grill & Saloon for dinner and hit the pool.
